Before bed, use a bit of humectant-infused moisturizer on your face. You will sweat while sleeping, due to an increase in body temperature. A moisturizer with humectant can help hydrate skin that would otherwise get dry.

Use a makeup sponge to apply your sunscreen very effectively. Using the sponge as a sunscreen applicator helps spread the lotion evenly and helps you avoid having to experience the greasy texture. Dabbing with a sponge will also help the sunscreen penetrate into your skin, ensuring maximum absorption while keeping your hands clean and dry.

Drink lots of water each day to enjoy healthy skin. Beauty starts from the inside out, and staying hydrated is extremely important for the overall health and appearance of your skin. Consuming a minimum of eight cups of water each day helps you remain well-hydrated and results in skin that is soft and supple. Make sure you use a good water filter (not the pitcher type).

Try to keep your stress levels down. Stress can cause an increase of adrenaline, DHEA and cortisol levels in your blood. All three of these are linked to skin blemishes like psoriasis, acne, and eczema. Your skin also serves as an indicator of your physical and mental health, so avoid stress to keep your skin looking good.

One simple way to determine your skin type is to do a tissue test. By applying a tissue directly to the facial surface upon waking, the quantity of oil that remains on it will indicate whether your skin is oily, dry or a combination of the two. Understanding what skin type you have will assist you in choosing products specifically formulated for your skin.

While people may view tanning as a good thing for the skin, it can actually be very dangerous. If you insist on being tan, avoid tanning beds and sunbathing and use sunless tanning lotions. A tanning lotion will help you stay away from UV rays, which can cause cancer.

To protect yourself from this, use lip balm every time you go outside. This will help protect your lips from the damage caused by exposure to the sun.

Don't use bar soap to wash your face. Bar soap should be used only from your neck going down and not on your face. Bar soap can clog your pores by drying out your face which could lead to facial skin problems. Use only soaps which are designed specifically for gentle facial cleaning.

Use skin protection religiously. Use sunscreen that has a a good UVB ray protection rating and apply this about 30 minutes before exposure to the sun. If possible, you should always pick out the highest SPF that you can find. The sunscreen will prevent sunburns and premature aging.

You can talk to your dermatologist for prescription if you want a better skin repair cream. These FDA-approved creams have undergone rigorous testing to ensure they are effective. Unfortunately, many of these anti-aging creams cannot be used by women who are nursing, pregnant or people that take certain types of medication.

When thinking about skin care, don't forget about your often neglected feet. Your overall skin care routine should include healthy feet. Get a lubricant such as Vaseline to keep your feet hydrated and healthy.
